COUNTRY HOUSE
Sarah was commisioned to design the interior of this lovely country house when the owners first bought the property. Thirteen years later, when they decided to re-model and extend the house, they went to great lengths to track her down again. A three-storey extension replaced the second staircase giving easier access to the bedrooms on the second floor. A new formal dining room and den were created in the oldest parts of the house. Sarah worked on the entire project, in close liaison with the architects, contractor and other consultants. Each of the 19 rooms was re-designed to meet the clients’ brief, each with its own distinct character.
The new open-plan kitchen, dining and seating area is kept cosy by free underfloor heating...
...powered by a ground source heat pump.
The client wanted the den to be a strong, warm colour, creating a cosy environment for watching television in the winter months.
A double-sided wood-burning stove sits between the new open plan, kitchen, dining and family area and ’The Den’. The red bricks of the new fireplace wall influenced the colour choices.
The granite for the worktop was selected direct from the quarry in Italy for its unique pattern of striations.
The client’s own horn galleon takes centre stage against the pictorial ’Trade Winds’ wallpaper.
A statement-making basin and dark tiles from Fired Earth add drama to the re-designed downstairs loo.
